Microsoft Intranet website design

client: Microsoft

[designer’s comment] This design for Microsoft’s employee intranet was one of the earliest efforts at generating design templates completely using CSS and HTML—even the logo was text; the only images used were the photos. The techies at Microsoft were very excited about that idea, and appreciated that you could get good web design and web typography without the traditional use of branding graphics. The design was developed by John Schmitz while at the pioneering web firm he helped found, Interactive Bureau. Typography: No graphic fonts are used—Arial (Helvetica) and Georgia are used for display and text typography.
