[designer’s comment] Can a new design help your business? After this redesign, Madalin’s owner reported a substantial surge in web traffic—and paying customers. This website redesign and update accompanied an overall rebranding project for Madalin Hotel and Restaurant, one of the Hudson Valley’s favorite spots located in Tivoli, NY. Out of the web explorations came a new branding system, with logo design, graphic design for web and print marketing. The previous site lacked the sophistication of the establishment and was confusing and slow. The new look is more elegant and upscale, using cleaner and less fussy typography. The previous site had split the hotel and restaurant into two sites; the new site combines the two and shifts the primary branding to just “Madalin,” which is actually how the place is known. The older site also used an excess of Flash and heavy custom apps which slowed the site down and discouraged users—the new primary site architecture and coding is drastically simplified for a much simpler experience. Additional easily accessible review pages were added and all pages SEO optimized to improve search results. Text copy was also re-written and edited to be snappier and readable; new photography was shot and existing photography was run through Photoshop to make site imagery more professional. A strong horizontal crop was used to give the shots a cinematic look and make the rooms feel bigger. The overall result is a more unique, branded and accessible experience for site customers. [tech note] For this site NYDL advised on URL naming, managed domain registration and hosting transfers, and set-up easily accessible webmail and provided site update maintenance. [typography] The primary font used is Gotham. In general, web typography shows more attention to detail than commonly seen online, subtly reinforcing the sense of quality.
